Talya's Journey and Methodology in Mental Health
Talya holds a BA in Psychology and a Masters in Social Work. She has dedicated over 16 years to the mental health field, half of that time working in the non-profit sector supporting the growth and stabilization of individuals within the legal system, addiction and homelessness. Talya has enriched her expertise with an additional three years of training, with certification, in Somatic Experiencing Trauma therapy. She has also studied Psychobiological Approach to Couples therapy (PACT), attachment trauma, Enneagram, Relational Life Therapy, and mental health nutrition. Talya also has a Enneagram life coaching and executive coaching practice.
Passionate about supporting and guiding the healing process of individuals, couples, and families, Talya believes in the intrinsic healing capabilities of the body and mind. She recognizes that trauma, addiction, and various other struggles often leave individuals lost in the dark maze of their pain. As a therapist, Talya aims to provide a guiding light, helping her clients navigate through this maze towards healing.
Talya's central methodology is Somatic Experiencing®, a body-awareness approach to trauma. Alongside this, she employs a diverse array of methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, the Enneagram, and Attachment work. These approaches collectively help restore self-regulation and revive a sense of aliveness, relaxation, and wholeness in traumatized individuals who have lost these precious gifts.
While regular talk therapy supports some change, it often involves retelling the same story with minimal relief. This is because it primarily engages the frontal lobe of the brain, the "rational" part. However, it does not tap into the deeper survival mechanisms of the reptilian brain, such as the fight, flight, freeze, and fawn instincts. Through Talya's methods, clients can rewire their bodies’ responses to stress, enhance resiliency, and develop self-awareness by integrating all parts of the brain. This holistic approach helps clients move beyond mere survival mode and mentalities.
